Chinese SKS vs Russian SKS r/guns

The Chinese SKS is a copy of the Russian original and was introduced in 1956. There are many differences between the two rifles, but the main difference is that the Russian SKS is built with a much higher quality than the Chinese SKS. The Russians use better materials and have more experience in manufacturing firearms.

Of all the SKS rifles I own, Russian, Romainian, Yugo, Albanian, and Chinese, the Chinese is at the bottom fit and finish wise. Accuracy is a little better in the European rifles too. YMMV. Communism running rampant! I own two Norinco's.. that said, I'd gladly trade either of them for a good Russian!

The bulk of what you'll read on the internet about Chinese vs Russian SKS comes from the states, and the general consensus is the Russian guns are better. This is probably true for the US market, as most of the Chinese guns are commercial, or well used surplus. Canada had a massive import of brand new, still in the original packing grease.

The Russian SKS may be milled instead of stamped (Chinese) but the manufacturing process was evolved to its highest standard for quality and efficiency. This rings true especially in the last years of production with these rifles in factory 26 Specifically being built by the first arsenal and finished to the beautiful quality I've seen first.

Only two differences I can see between my Chinese SKS and my brothers Russian SKS is the position of the rear sling mountin point (Chinese one is on the left side of the stock; Russian one is on the bottom of the stock) and the bayonet (Chinese one has a "pig-sticker"; Russian one has a blade). There's some minor differences, some stamped parts.

Thanks to you both, and happy cake day. The main difference between the Russian and Chinese SKS is how the barrel is attached. The Russian method being generally preferred and argued more accurate. But really the difference is probably just arguing the size of the barn they each will hit.

The SKS Carbine has been called the Soviet Union's M1 Carbine. Like the M1 Carbine, it was designed as a lightweight, semi-automatic rifle that was handier than the standard infantry rifle. The 7.62×39 mm cartridge of the SKS was less powerful when compared to that of the issue 7.62x54R mm rifle cartridge employed in rifles such as the M91.

The machining and woodwork is faaaar nicer on my Chinese sks compared to my Russian ones. Granted, I believe my Chinese unit was non-issued (probably new production and not surplus), and my Russian ones look like the were tossed in the back of a dump truck between refurbishing and being packed away for storage. They both go bang, though.

And for good reason. Despite firing a 7.62X39 cartridge, the weapon's lack of recoil is startling. Even before you load the permanently-attached, front-hinged magazine (Stalin worried about troops losing them), the minimalism of the gun's external controls are a delight. Loading the SKS is a straightforward affair.

Chinese is light, but can be less accurate. Yugo is heavier, but more accurate and better machined. Yugo's do have some firing pin problems, but can be replaced with a Chinese one for about 5-10 dollars. I have one with over 1000 rounds shot by me and it works fine with the original pin.
